Windows security basics for everyday users

Good security is mostly a set of consistent habits, whether you are using Windows Security or evaluating antivirus for Windows. These steps are useful whether you use Windows Security or another established security product.

1

Download from trusted sources

Use the official publisher website or a recognised app store. Be cautious with “cracked” software, unexpected installers and pop-ups claiming your PC is infected.

2

Keep software current

Apply Windows and browser updates promptly. Old software can contain known security weaknesses.

3

Question unexpected messages

Do not enter passwords after following a surprise email or message link. Open the service directly instead.

4

Keep a backup

Keep important documents in a separate, recoverable location. A backup helps with device loss, accidental deletion and ransomware incidents.

About GuardTune Beta

GuardTune provides a Windows security and maintenance foundation, including local scanning and quarantine workflows. It is a Beta product with limited current antivirus scope. Keep established primary protection enabled while evaluating the Beta.
